  • It’s Official the US is a Police State
    9-17-2012, K. Nilsen,

For years now people of prominent stature have claimed that the US is edging closer and closer to becoming a police state, well over the past year the preponderance of evidence shows that we are officially in the realm of Police State USA!

    • Constitutional Police State Attributes

Numerous organizations and legal experts argue that since 9/11 various legislation has been passed that partially or fully nullifies elements of the rights of American citizens found in the Bill of Rights.[1][2] The ACLU also argues that the Patriot Act violates a number of personal freedoms, including allowing agents to breaking into a house and search it without the owners knowledge and they never have to tell the people who own the property that it was searched, this practice is called “sneak and peaks” and the ACLU says, “There are significant flaws in the Patriot Act, flaws that threaten your fundamental freedoms by giving the government the power to access to your medical records, tax records, information about the books you buy or borrow without probable cause, and the power to break into your home and conduct secret searches without telling you for weeks, months, or indefinitely.”[3][4] These practices have been used more than 11,000% more on non-terrorist related investigations than on investigations related to terrorists, [5] including against drug dealers and political protesters.[6] Furthermore, the ACLU argues that legislation such as the NDAA violates the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendments and is conscripted to allow for the indefinite detention of and killing of American citizens even without trial, and the Act is facing fierce opposition from the public and legally, currently (September 2012) there are nine states that have challenged the law in court and a New York Judge, (Forrest), has been successful in placing an injunction on the law, however the Obama legal team and administration refuse to confirm that they will abide by the courts ruling, reporter Tangerine Bolen who is a plaintiff in the case states that the government could be in contempt of court saying, “Obama’s attorneys refused to assure the court, when questioned, that the NDAA’s section 1021 – the provision that permits reporters and others who have not committed crimes to be detained without trial – has not been applied by the US government anywhere in the world after Judge Forrest’s injunction, in other words, they were telling a US federal judge that they could not, or would not, state whether Obama’s government had complied with the legal injunction that she had laid down before them”.[7][8][9][10] Free speech zones have been used at a variety of political gatherings in the United States with the stated purpose of protecting the safety of those attending the political gathering, or for the safety of the protesters themselves, however critics suggest that such zones are “Orwellian” (see List of fictional police states) and are a clear violation of the First Amendments right to speech and assemble peaceably.[11] Critics say that if Free Speech Zones exist as regions where the Constitutionally protected First Amendment is valid this means there are areas where the First Amendment has been removed, clearly violating the First Amendments right and intent.[12]  America has made torture legal, and has tortured individuals hundreds of times, including waterboarding which we tried and executed Japanese for the exact same crime in WWII as a war crime this is against the Constitution and International Law and Treaties and is a sign of a police state atmosphere, especially since those that ordered the torture have skirted prosecution.[13][14]  Similarly, ‘black sites’ have been exposed where US Military detainees are taken to be interrogated in countries where torture is routinely done, this is morally wrong obviously but it is also illegal and indicative of police state like activity. [15][16]  Additionally Obama has asserted that there is a “kill list”, an issue brought to the forefront after three American citizens were killed in a drone strike ordered by the US Government, and President Obama is butting heads with Congress on the legality of Americans being on a “kill list”.[17][18]

    • Militarization of Police

There has been a steady increase in the police being aided by and resemble increasingly the practices of the military including using their weapons and tactics.[19][20] Established in 1878 the Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the use of the military for law enforcement and policing activities but this law has been continually violated as the military has been used for years for things such as DUI checkpoints and serving warrants in conjunction with the local or state police. Since 1990 the police have been militarized increasingly and Federal funding has helped this process with large discounts for military gear for the police,[21] and after 9/11 this militarization has quickened at a concerning rate.[22]  This militarization of the police force manifests as using military equipment, military style weapons such as assault rifles[23] armored vehicles (often purchased from the military),[21] blimps, helicopters, planes as well as the most recent addition, drones, all of which may be armed.[24][25]  Two American lawmakers have stated on the record that, in their opinion, Section 1031 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA) legalizes or authorizes martial law in the United States, additionally Senator Mark Udall (D-Colorado) stated “These provisions raise serious questions as to who we are as a society and what our Constitution seeks to protect…Section 1031 essentially repeals the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 by authorizing the U.S. military to perform law enforcement functions on American soil.” [26]

    • Other Police State Attributes

Critics accusing the America of becoming a police state point to the fact that the prison population is higher in total number of prisoners and prisoners per 100,000 people than any other country in the world, the USA is merely 5% of the world population yet it contains about 25% of the worlds prison detainees, despite having populations much smaller than other countries such as China (which is a claimed police state), has over a billion people nearly, that’s about three times the size of the US and yet they have less total prisoners.[27]. Furthermore private prisons have been allowed to operate and have agreements and contracts with states that grantee the prison will remain 90% full, this is an obvious collusion of a corporation with a state, and is called a civil rights disaster because mandating a percentage of people in prison puts a strain on the legal system potentially forcing judges and prosecutors to modify their sentencing to ensure the prison is filled.[28] Similarly, the court case of Citizens United has made the ruling that corporations are legally equal to people, thus allowing, among other things unlimited donations for use in elections which is dangerous to a free democracy because corporations have far more money than individual donors making candidates susceptible to being controlled by big business.[29] Americas election process has been criticized in the past because lobbyists pay politicians to persuade the politician to vote a certain way, and because of this the US political system has been called Crony Capitalism and the Citizens United case lends credence to this accusation. Additionally, Benito Mussolini has been quoted as saying about fascism (a type of police state), ” Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power,” and it is clear to see that there is a merging of corporate influence and power in the American political system.[30] An electronic police state is said to be present in America by organizations that rate countries on an electronic police state scale, including in the annual document called “The Electronic Police State” where in the latest release the USA is ranked as the top, most advanced, Western government to be an electronic police state, followed closely by the United Kingdom.[31] The USA is an extremely high tech spying operation capable of monitoring all electronic communications and data in real time and stores the information, and operates multination spying systems such as ECHELON, and there are fusion centers locally where data is collected on the American people and disseminated to various National Security, Law Enforcement, Military and sometimes Business Agencies, [32] also whistle-blowers claim that every American is being spied on including all internet activity, phone calls, texts, emails, banking and travel information and are compiling and saving this data, blatantly in violation of the 4th Amendment.[33] There is an entire army brigade assigned solely to the United States, USNORTHCOM, (something that has never happened before in the country’s history), and there is a civilian force called Infragard, which uses business people, civilians and others to spy on clients, and members of the community and report to the FBI [34], having over 40,000 members it has been criticized by the ACLU saying there “is evidence that InfraGard may be closer to a corporate (Terrorism Information and Preventing System) TIPS program, turning private-sector corporations – some of which may be in a position to observe the activities of millions of individual customers – into surrogate eyes and ears for the FBI”, other critics call this the equivalent of the East German Stasi.[35] Another claim that the US could be becoming a police state is the control over travel and the media, specifically the TSA has been criticized for its procedures of forcing passengers to endure a ‘Naked body scanner’ or ‘Invasive pat down’ (which includes touching of the gentiles of travelers, including children, which in itself is a crime in all states) if they refuse to go through the potentially harmful body scanner, and the TSA have spread from the airport to highways, trains, and other means of transportation[36][37], and critics say the media is unbiased being influenced by government similar to the 1950’s Operation Mockingbird and there are proven instances of the government paying journalists to report on certain stories from a particular viewpoint.[38][39]  Disarming the population is key to having a police state as an armed populace is more likely to be able to throw off the chains of tyranny, and previous police states of Hitler, Stalin, Pol-Pot and Mao all implemented disarmament as part of their reign.[40] There have been many attempts to disarm and limit the American populaces Second Amendment Right to own firearms, one of the most recent examples being the UN Small Arms Treaty of 2012, and when that treaty failed to be enacted a Programme of Action Against Small Arms called “Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects” which is compared by a New American article to a “wholesale national expansion of the “Fast and Furious” operation that bore no fruit and resulted in the death of a US border patrol officer” among thousands of other deaths. [41] Gun confiscation has already occurred in one modern American city; in hurricane Katrina the citizens of New Orleans, including those that had plenty of food and water and were in ‘high and dry’ areas were stripped of their firearms illegally.[42]  The “Fast and Furious” operation was carried out by the US Government in which guns were sent to violent drug gangs in the US and to Mexican drug gangs resulting in the killing of many people including Border Patrol agents. This incident was seen by many as a False Flag to demonize the Second Amendment allowing for the passage of very restrictive gun control, but the operation was unsuccessful in this regard when it came out that the ATF, FBI, DEA, ICE and even members of the US Government in the highest echelons including US Attorney General Eric Holder and possibly President Obama knew of the plan to give known violent drug cartels the weapons, and the allowance of tons of cocaine and marijuana to flow back into the United States to be distributed in US cities.[43] Some cities such as New York and Chicago have succeeded in banning types of commonly used guns such as handguns.[44] Groups such as the Oath Keepers, which are serving military and veterans of war, police and others who have taken an Oath to defend and protect the Constitution understand the risk of and the reality that elements of the US Government want and are actively trying to severely limit and end the Second Amendment, thus The Oath Keepers have vowed to uphold the Oath they took to ‘protect and defend the Constitution’. The Oath Keepers know that protecting the rights of US Citizens to own and use firearms is paramount to a free society not controlled as a police state and they say they will disobey orders to disarm Americans and fight to protect these rights from being violated by overreaching governments, which shows there is some silver lining but many more people must stand up to stop this monstrous police state.

  • Obama – Coming Out As A Super-Bush9-6-11,  By K. Nilsen,

Obama offered change, this is what the American people were desperate for when he was campaigning, but really what has Obama done in the past nearly three years?
Let’s see what was promised and what the reality is.
Early in Bush’s first term the country was thrust into one (arguably) essential war to retaliate 9/11 in Afghanistan, and one war based on lies and fabricated ‘intelligence’ in Iraq. Over the course of these wars MANY other horrid things were pushed by the Bush administration, we have seen the erosion of numerous rights and tenants of freedom granted in the constitution and bill of rights with the passage of the Patriot Act and similar legislation that gave the government unprecedented powers including cataloging all emails and phone calls of Americans without a warrant, the government calling the American people terrorists based on such innocuous things such as supporting Ron Paul, talking about the constitution, attending anti-war rallies, and even wearing blue jeans and being nice (see homeland security and MIAC manuals for more outrageous examples of labeling everyday Americans and especially patriots as terrorists), another power grab by the executive branch including holding Americans without charge for an indefinite amount of time, furthermore the elimination of the long held law of posse commentates allowing the military to do police missions as the two continue to merge, states rights were violated as the Feds came into states that made medical cannabis legal and overriding their decision, extraordinary rendition programs took prisoners to black sites where they were tortured and killed violating a ton of international and ethical and moral laws, Bush has admitted to allowing torture and is unapologetic about it, the wars and battlefield themselves have become less moral as the previously banned depleted uranium was allowed and has since been widely used it has been linked to record still borns and heart wrenching deformities and cancer rates exploding and making this even worse is the fact of it having an extremely long half life resulting in it staying in the environment for several Billion years and wind currents is carrying it far beyond the battle field, also unmanned drones are expanding the war across boarders and shockingly kill many more civilians than conventional war and to top it all off the economy ground to a stop and the great recession (in reality it was the beginning of a depression). All of this and more thrust on the American people in two short terms of GW Bush, all of these things are very unpopular! Obama was seen as (quite literally to some) a savior! He ran on a simple slogan, Change. Have things changed, or are things on the same path and getting worse?

  • Obama ran on transparency in office, but his first executive order was to seal his own record!
He ran as the antiwar candidate and even was awarded the Nobel peace prize, but has showed no sign of an end to war. The spin machine tried to say the withdraw of some troops in Afghanistan was troop withdraw when in reality he was just bringing the numbers back down to the levels they were at before he increased the number of troops in the surge, he started a new war, huh ‘kinetic military action’ in Libya saying over and over that the war, err military action would last days not weeks and we are Months into it now with no sight of the end. Furthermore drone attacks and even men on the ground have expanded into Yemen, Pakistan and others. He has not descended the raids on states rights with medical cannabis, or torture, or GitMo, or drone attacks and has greatly increased these attacks with less regard for international boarders, the drug war is worse than ever with tens of thousands of people dying in gang violence, the depleted uranium is still being used, and troop moral is very low with more troop suicides than combat deaths! We saw the continued abuse of the constitution with the rise of the TSA and the continued tarnishing of our dignity where people are forced to be subjected to a radiation bath that generate naked images that are examination by a minimum wage government employee or if one doesn’t want this (and who would?) there is the alternative of a complete groping of your entire body, especially the genitals and even children are molested by the TSA just to fly. Obama took Bush’s self imposed right to hold prisoners indefinitly and took it a step further proclaiming he has the power to assassinate American citizens! Everyone is treated as criminals, violating the long held American notion of innocent until proven guilty! Also president Obama has spent more money and has created more debt than any other president yet our economy is getting worse as Obama showed his true colors helping out the corporations that bankrolled him giving them exemptions and bail outs while the everyday men and woman of this country suffer as unemployment explodes and the economy is on the verge of collapse….

What the public is learning is that Bush, or the Republicans, are essentially the same as the Democrats and Obama continues the destructive and unpopular agenda that Bush put in motion.Democrats and Republicans are for corporations and international interests as opposed to being for the American people!

What we need is a revival in the American spirit, a return to the tenants of the Constitution. A return to the non-interventionous nature of the past, and the destruction of American imperialism. The abandonment of this shallow materialistic celebrity and professional sports worshiping society and the return of the productive freedom loving, hard working, good moral society I know we can be again! There is but one man who I have seen that can bring this about, he is the only one with a voting record proving he is for the people not the corporations, is strictly constitutional, a man who knows how to bring us out of the depression and wars and is for states rights and sees the police state rising and the imperialism and vows to stop it. He is the only true antiwar candidate and the military donates more to him than any other candidate. I’m talking, of course about Ron Paul he is the Only one that knows how to turn this country around and the morals to actually do it. Join the Ron Paul Revolution vote to save this country and possibly the world in 2012!

  • Ron Paul Introduces a Marijuana Decriminalization Bill!
    June 23, 2011 |  [4:20 pm ;)]

Marijuana laws should be set at the state, not federal, level, Reps. Ron Paul and Barney Frank argued in a bill they introduced Thursday.

The goal of the bill, HR 2306, is not to legalize marijuana but to remove it from the list of federally controlled substances while allowing states to decide how they will regulate it.

“I do not advocate urging people to smoke marijuana. Neither do I urge them to drink alcoholic beverages or smoke tobacco,” said Frank (D-Mass.). “But in none of these cases do I think prohibition enforced by criminal sanctions is good public policy.

“Criminally prosecuting adults for making the choice to smoke marijuana is a waste of law enforcement resources and an intrusion on personal freedom,” he added. [More…]

  • NEW YORK, June 21, 2011, PRNewswire-USNewswire

“The prolonged ingestion of fluoride may cause significant damage to health and particularly to the nervous system,” concludes a review of studies by researchers Valdez-Jimenez, et al. published in Neurologia(June 2011), reports New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. (NYSCOF).The research team reports, “It is important to be aware of this serious problem and avoid the use of toothpaste and items that contain fluoride, particularly in children as they are more susceptible to the toxic effects of fluoride.” (1)

“Fluoride can be toxic by ingesting one part per million (ppm), and the effects are not immediate, as they can take 20 years or more to become evident,” they write.

Most fluoridating U.S. public drinking water suppliers add fluoride chemicals to deliver 1 ppm fluoride (equal to about 1 milligram per quart) intending to benefit teeth and not to purify the water.

“Fluoridation clearly jeopardizes our children and must be stopped,” says attorney Paul Beeber, President, NYSCOF.  “We can actually see how fluoride has damaged children’s teeth with dental fluorosis; but we can’t see the harm it’s doing to their brains and other organs. No U.S. researcher is even looking,” says Beeber.

Valdez-Jimenez, et al. describe studies that show fluoride induces changes in the brain’s physical structure and biochemistry which affects the neurological  and mental development of individuals including cognitive processes, such as learning and memory.

“Fluoride is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, which may cause biochemical and functional changes in the nervous system during pregnancy, since the fluoride accumulates in brain tissue before birth,” they write.*

Animal studies show fluoride’s toxic brain effects include classic brain abnormalities found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Valdez-Jimenez’s team reports.

A different research team (Tang et al.) reported in 2008 that “A qualitative review of the studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure to fluoride and low IQ.” (Biological Trace Element Research)  (2)

In 2006, the U.S. National Research Council’s (NRC) expert fluoride panel reviewed fluoride toxicology and concluded, “It’s apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain.” And, “Fluorides also increase the production of free radicals in the brain through several different biological pathways. These changes have a bearing on the possibility that fluorides act to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.” (3)

On April 12, 2010, Time magazine listed fluoride as one of the “Top Ten Common Household Toxins” and described fluoride as both “neurotoxic and potentially tumorigenic if swallowed.” (4)

Phyllis Mullenix, Ph.D., was the first U.S. scientist to find evidence that fluoride damages the brain. She published her animal study in a respected peer-reviewed scientific journal in 1995 (5) and then was fired for doing so.(6)

Vyvyan Howard, M.D., Ph.D., a prominent fetal toxicologist and past-President of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment, said that current brain/fluoride research convinces him that we should stop water fluoridation.

Many communities have stopped or rejected fluoridation in the past several years  – the most recent is Fairbanks, Alaska.  This year, seven New York City Council Members co-sponsored legislation to stop fluoridation in NYC.

How can we get dentists to come out and say that fluoride is poison and has no beneficial effects on ones dental health? I haven’t used fluoride in any capacity ever since I found out it is active ingredient in rat poison. We need to wake people up to the dangers of fluoride among many many other things.

  9. My wife and I live about 130m from the proposed site and we have 2 small chrdlien. The proposed location is a minute commercial area in the midst of a large residential area. I fear that this technical non-residential status will trump the reality of the residential location which includes schools and child-care centres.Everybody I have spoken to who has lived near a rehab centre tells me they bring loitering, anti-social behaviour and needles in the street. I’m also concerned about Brockley becoming a centre for drug users, more dealers moving in and there being violent conflict between them and with existing drug dealers. If these concerns make me a nimby then so be it. If it was your neighbourhood and your kids you might also have concerns. At the consultation meeting last Wednesday, the advocates told us that in their experience of running 150 such centres, there would be minimal problems and we would barely notice the centre’s existence. They emphasised that service users would be a self-selected sample committed to recovery and could be holding down jobs, have chrdlien and/or only suffering from a mild problem with cannabis use. When it was suggested that some of the users would only be attending because of court orders, there was muted assent. The rosy picture painted by the advocates also stood in contrast to testimony of residents who had worked with the client group in question, others I have spoken to who have lived near rehab centres, and the impression given by CRi’s own risk assessment. According to this document, there is a moderate likelihood of moderately severe agression from service users towards staff, volunteers, peer mentors, peer advocates, service users and visitors. This risk will be reduced by issuing all staff with personal alarms. Risks to local residents and passers by are not assessed, but I think we can assume they won’t be issued with personal alarms. The general impression was one of a meeting divided between advocates and residents, with no honest broker to mediate or give unbiased information. Also sorely lacking was anybody from the organisers who knew how to chair a meeting. This alone went a long way towards undermining the effectiveness of the consultation. My faith in the consultation process was further undermined by the consultation document’ that advocates said had been distributed to 1000 local residents. Few people in the immediate area say they received the document although many who actually received it may have ignored it because at first sight it looks like a general consultation with no relationship to the local area. Only in the small writing on page 2 would readers find out that a rehab centre is proposed for Shardloes Rd. No street number is given, no map is given and there is no photo of the building. The document includes a questionnaire that doesn’t ask residents how they feel about having a rehab centre on their doorstep, it only asks them if they want better drug treatment services in the area. There are no quantifiable options that could be used to register opposition. Only one of the text boxes could conceivably be taken as an invitation to voice opposition. This box is at the end, the responder would have had to go through the nauseating series of leading questions to get that far, and any contents would not contribute to the hard statistics’ that end up being presented to the mayor. As an object lesson of how to lie with surveys, it’s only failing is that its shifty guile is all too blatant. The above considerations seriously undermine my faith in the rest of the assurances from the advocates, including the assurance that this really is the best location. If it really is, then fair enough, it has to go somewhere, and it’s just my bad luck if it turns out badly. However, it’s difficult to believe any assurance when it’s being offered up alongside obvious flim-flam.
